The left hand alternator splash shield can contact the constant velocity joint boot and cause wear on the boot. This shield has been removed in production
on vehicles with automatic transaxles built after 4/18/85.

For all 1984 and later cars with ATX transaxles now in service and those unsold in dealer stock, the affected splash shield should be removed. Refer to
Figure 1 for specific location. It has been determined that deletion of this shield will not adversely affect vehicle function. The
left hand inboard CV joint boot should be inspected for damage. If the boot is "worn-through", replace the boot, clamps, and grease per the appropriate
model year Powertrain Car Shop Manual (Book E, Section 15), for information.
