Accelerator Pump: Description and Operation
When the throttle plates are opened quickly, air flows through the carburetor almost immediately. Because fuel is heavier than air, there is a brief
time lag before fuel flow can gain enough speed to maintain proper air/fuel ratio.

During this lag, the accelerator pump system supplies the necessary extra fuel to maintain correct air/fuel ratio until the other metering systems
can respond.

When the throttle plates are opened, the diaphragm rod is pushed upward, forcing fuel from the pump chamber into the discharge passage.

Fuel under pressure moves the discharge check ball off its seat. This fuel then travels through the pump discharge valve where it enters the
primary venturi through the pump discharge nozzle.
