Hall Effect Sensor: Service and Repair

Removal
1.
Remove distributor cap and position aside, leaving wires attached.
2.
Disconnect TFI module from harness, then remove distributor from engine block.
3.
Mark positions of armature, gear and collar, if equipped, for assembly reference.
4.
Remove and discard pins in gear and collar, if equipped.
5.
Remove gear and collar or thrust washer, as equipped.
6.
Polish shaft with emery cloth, then slide shaft assembly out of distributor base.
7.
Remove thrust washer from from distributor shaft.
8.
Remove octane rod attaching screw and the 2 module attaching screws.
9.
Remove module and octane rod.
10.
Remove stator assembly from top of bowl.
11.
Inspect base bushing for wear of signs of excess heat concentration and the base for wear or damage. Replace complete distributor assembly if any
damage is noted.
12.
Inspect base O-ring and replace if necessary.
Installation
1.
Position stator over bushing and press down until properly seated.
2.
Position stator connector, ensuring tab fits in notch on base and fastening eyelets align with screw holes.
3.
Ensure wires are positioned away from moving components, then install stator screws and torque to 25---35 inch lbs.
4.
Install octane rod and torque attaching screw to 25---35 inch lbs.
5.
Clean module mating surfaces, then apply suitable grease to back of module.
6.
Invert distributor base and install module, ensuring pins are inserted into stator connector. Fully seat module into connector and against base.
7.
Install module attaching screws and torque to 25---35 inch lbs.
8.
Install thrust washer, if equipped, on top of bushing.
9.
Apply suitable lubricant to distributor shaft below the armature, then slide shaft assembly through base bushing.
10.
On units equipped with collar, position collar over shaft, aligning mark on armature with original drill hole. Insert new roll pin through collar and
shaft until pin is flush with both sides of collar.
11.
On all units, position gear over shaft, aligning mark on armature with original drill hole. Insert new roll pin through gear and shaft until pin is flush
shaft.
12.
Verify free rotation of distributor, then install distributor, cap and rotor.
