This article supersedes article 84-19-12 (dated 09/12/84) . The date code on the EVP Sensors has been changed.
An intermittent open circuit in the EVP Sensor, the wire harness or the connectors can generate an erroneous EGR signal that may cause a lean idle
condition. The engine may begin to stall; however, the processor senses this and attempts to correct by energizing the idle speed control motor. The idle
speed is momentarily increased. This condition usually occurs intermittently.
1.
Check the wire harness and mating connector of the EVP sensor for possible intermittents and service or replace as necessary.
2.
Replace the EVP sensor (E43Z-96428-B) that exhibits a date code prior to October 12, 1984 (4K12B).
