Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

1.
Remove transmission assembly and, on models equipped with manual transmission, then clutch pressure plate and disc.
2.
Remove flywheel, flywheel housing and rear plate.
3.
Punch two holes in seal on opposite sides of crankshaft directly above bearing cap-to-cylinder block split line. Insert a sheet metal screw into each
hole.
4.
Remove oil seal by prying against screws with two screwdrivers. Use care to avoid scratching crankshaft oil seal surface.
5.
Clean oil seal groove in main bearing cap and cylinder block.
6.
Apply lubricant to new seal and install using tool No. T72C-6165 or equivalent, Fig. 11.
