Idle Speed: Adjustments

Refer to Tune Up Specifications chart for curb idle speed settings. Curb idle speed is controlled by the EEC-IV processor and the idle speed control
air bypass valve assembly. If engine curb idle RPM is not within specification after performing this procedure, refer to diagnostic procedures in
``Computerized Engine Controls'' section.
1.
Place transmission in neutral and turn EATC-Heat selector to ECON position.
2.
Run engine until it reaches normal operating temperature, then shut engine off.
3.
Disconnect idle speed control valve electrical connector.
4.
Start engine and operate at 2000 RPM for 30 seconds.
5.
Let engine idle and check that base idle RPM is 750 RPM.
6.
Loosen the throttle complete roller bolt prior to adjusting the throttle stop screw, then set engine speed to 725 RPM by adjusting throttle stop
screw Fig. 1.
7.
Retighten throttle complete roller bolt. Check that throttle stop contacts throttle stop screw and when throttle is open, the throttle complete
contacts the roller without excessive throttle pedal ``lost motion.''
8.
Rev engine up to 2000 RPM for 30 seconds to ensure plates are free.
9.
Shut engine off, then connect idle speed control valve electrical connector.
10.
Ensure that throttle plate is not stuck in bore by moving throttle plate manually.
