Seat Belt Retractor: Adjustments
On the continuous loop system, the outboard lap/shoulder belt uses a common one-way tongue. To secure, insert the tongue onto the inboard buckle.
The lap belt webbing is anchored to the side of the sill without a retractor.
The shoulder harness webbing is fixed in a retractor, which is located on the B-pillar post in the quarter panel. The retractor allows webbing to be moved
freely in or out at all times, except during vehicle deceleration. Then, it is automatically locked by a mechanically actuated inertia sensor.
NOTE: If the vehicle is on an incline it may not be possible to extract the webbing from the retractor. Move vehicle to level ground before fastening
belt.
The inboard belt buckle is secured to a fixed anchorage on the floor.
Attaching the tongue and buckle secures the occupant with both lower and upper restraints. This tongue attachment and belt adjustment can be
accomplished by a single continuous movement.
The 2-point system (rear center lap belt only) is adjustable at the tongue.
Continuous Loop System, Lap Shoulder Belts
The shoulder restraint portion of the belt adjusts automatically to a snug position. The inertia reel allows freedom of movement, locking tight only
on hard braking or impacts of approximately 8 km/h (5 mph) or more. The reel can not be locked by jerking on the webbing.
Lap Portion Adjustment
The lap portion of the belt adjusts automatically.
Rear Retractor and Lap Belts
To fasten belts, pull belt out of retractor with a steady motion and insert tongue into buckle. Adjust belt snugly around hips (never across the waist)
by allowing slack to return to the retractor. Failure to do so may result in unnecessary injury in the event of a collision or sudden stop.
