Merkur Xr4ti L4-140 2.3L SOHC Turbo (1985)
Heater Core: Service and Repair
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Drain engine coolant from cooling system and remove hoses from heater core, plugging hoses and core.
3.
Carefully blow air into upper of two connecting pipes to remove residual coolant.
4.
Remove cover plate and gasket from firewall.
5.
Remove center console, drawing it rearward.
6.
Remove side trim panel in right hand footwell.
7.
Disconnect heater control lever and the leads from the glove compartment light, A/C blower switch and cigar lighter, then remove lower right hand
dash panel.
8.
Disconnect all duct hoses from heater housing.
9.
Disconnect bowden cables from heater housing.
10.
Remove heater from firewall and draw it in until the water connectors of the heater core are clear of the firewall, then pull heater assembly to the
right.
11.
Remove two heater core retaining screws and slide heater core out of housing.
12.
Reverse procedure to install.
