Auxiliary Shaft Gear/Sprocket: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Remove drive belts, water pump pulley, timing belt cover, crankshaft damper and pulley and timing belt as outlined under ``Timing Belt, Replace.''
3.
Using tool T74P-6256-B or equivalent, remove auxiliary shaft sprocket.
4.
Using tool T74P-6700-B or equivalent, remove auxiliary shaft seal.
5.
Remove auxiliary shaft cover.
6.
Remove auxiliary shaft, being careful not to scratch bearings.
INSTALLATION
1.
Ensure that auxiliary shaft and bearings are clean and not worn or damaged.
2.
Dip auxiliary shaft in engine oil.
3.
Install auxiliary shaft in bearing bores, being careful not to scratch bearings.
4.
Install auxiliary shaft retaining plate.
5.
Install auxiliary shaft gasket and cover without seal, torquing bolts to 6-9 ft. lbs.
6.
Using suitable tool, install auxiliary shaft seal.
7.
Using tool T74P-6256-B or equivalent, install auxiliary shaft sprocket. Remove center arbor, as tool is used as a holding fixture. The sprocket
retaining bolt presses the sprocket onto the shaft. Torque bolt to 28-40 ft. lbs.
8.
Install timing belt as outlined under ``Timing Belt, Replace,'' crankshaft damper and pulley, timing belt cover, water pump pulley and drive belts.
