Crankshaft Gear/Sprocket: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

Remove drive belts, water pump pulley, timing belt cover, crankshaft damper and pulley and timing belt as outlined under ``Timing Belt, Replace.''

3.

Using tool T74P-6306-A or equivalent, remove crankshaft sprocket.

4.

Remove camshaft sprocket belt guide.

5.

Using suitable tool, remove front cover seal.

6.

Remove engine front cover. 

INSTALLATION

1.

Ensure that front of cylinder block and front cover are clean.

2.

Position front cover gasket on cylinder block, retaining with suitable grease. It may be necessary to trim ends of oil pan to cylinder block front
seal if installing a cover without replacing oil pan gasket.

3.

Install front cover without seal in it, starting attaching bolts but leaving them loose.

4.

Insert front cover aligner T74P-6019-B or equivalent into cover to align it with crankshaft, torque bolts to 6-9 ft. lbs. and remove tool.

5.

Oil inner lip of cover seal and install it using suitable tool.

6.

Thread tool and seal onto crankshaft, then, with outer nut, force tool and seal toward engine until seal bottoms in front cover. Remove tool.

7.

Install crankshaft sprocket, timing belt as outlined under ``Timing Belt, Replace,'' crankshaft damper and pulley, timing belt cover, water pump
and drive belts.
