Article No. 88-15-6
MERKUR:
1985-86 XR4Ti
ISSUE:
Air conditioning/heater blower motor resistors that fail may be caused by corrosion build-up on the blower motor bearings. The corrosion
build-up can cause a higher than normal current draw which results in a resistor failure. The type of grease used to lubricate the blower motor
bearings was water soluble, allowing it to be washed away by the A/C condensate.
ACTION:
To correct this, install a new air conditioning/heater blower motor that uses a non-water soluble grease to lubricate the bearings. Refer to the
Merkur XR4Ti Shop Manual, Section 36-01-26.
