Subsequent to shop manual publication, the engine coolant temperature sending unit has been relocated for improved gauge accuracy. The location
shown in the illustrations in the 1985 Merkur Shop Manual, page 34-20-2, and the Electrical Vacuum Trouble Shooting Manual, page 32, are incorrect.
The correct location is shown in Figure 22. As this was a late running production change, some early vehicles have the former sending unit in the old
location, but it is not utilized as they are also equipped with the new sender in the new location. Current production units have a plug in the old location.
