Warm air blowing out of the registers when the A/C is on may be caused by a minimal "wrap" of the alternator/power steering pump/water pump belt on
the water pump pulley. This allows the pulley to stop or turn slowly if the belt is loose when the A/C clutch is energized, thereby preventing compressor
operation.

Inspect the vehicle and correct the condition, as outlined in the service procedure below.

If either drive belt shows signs of slipping or deterioration, it should be replaced, 2. Start the engine and move the A/C function selector lever to
MAX A/C and turn the blower switch on high.

Observe the water pump and compressor clutch pulleys. If the compressor clutch pulley and water pump pulley turn slowly or do not turn at all
upon compressor clutch engagement, adjust the water pump/alternator/power steering pump drive belt tension following the procedure in the Shop
Manual.

4.

If the compressor continues to be inoperative after the belts are adjusted to specification, check the compressor with the engine off by turning the
compressor front clutch plate by hand to see if the compressor is sticking, binding or grabbing.

5.

If any of these conditions exist, replace the compressor following the procedure in the Shop Manual.
