ACCELERATOR - CABLE DISENGAGES FROM PEDAL
MERKUR 1985 XR4Ti
On 1985 Merkur XR4Ti vehicles built before June 5, 1985, the accelerator cable may disengage from the pedal assembly on some vehicles if the pedal is
lifted to the full upward position. If this condition occurs, engine speed will return to idle. To prevent this condition from occurring, a pedal stop (part
number E5RY-9816-A) has been designed to limit upward travel of the pedal assembly to just beyond idle, Listed below are the instructions for
installing the accelerator pedal stop.
1.
Remove the sound deadening panel located under the instrument panel (driver's side).
2.
Disengage the throttle cable assembly from the accelerator pedal by pulling the cable away from the pedal and lifting the cable through the slot
located on top of the accelerator pedal.
3.
Remove the accelerator pedal mounting bracket attaching nut located on the driver's side floor pad.
4.
Install accelerator pedal.
5.
Reverse Steps 1, 2, and 3.
