Lubricate valve seals and install the input shaft/pinion assembly into the housing. Ensure input shaft blind spline is properly indexed with the
alignment mark on the housing. Rotate input shaft slightly from side to side to mesh the pinion with the rack.

Ensure rack is properly centered.
29.
Hold input shaft and install pinion bearing locknut. Torque locknut to 27-35 ft. lbs.

Install pinion bearing bore plug.
31.
Install input shaft upper seal and bearing into housing. Ensure lip faces into the bore.
32.
Install pinion upper bearing and seal retaining snap ring.
33.
Fill space above the upper seal and inside the dust cover with a water repellent grease. Install dust cover.
34.
Coat rack yoke bore and the rack yoke with grease, then install the rack yoke and preload spring.
35.
Coat rack yoke plug threads with Loctite 290 or equivalent.
36.
Install plug. Do not tighten plug.
37.
Install ball joint and tie rod assemblies.
38.
Install dust boots.
39.
Install tie rod ends and locknuts.
