This article supersedes TSB 07-25-15 to update the Service Procedure and Part List.
ISSUE
Some 2007-2008 Fusion and Milan vehicles built before 10/31/2007 and equipped with the Audiophile (Non-Navigation) sound system may exhibit a
pop noise of varying intensity from the subwoofer speakers in rear package tray when the radio is on (in any mode) and the brake switch is applied.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
NOTE
THIS PROCEDURE IS ONLY FOR VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE AUDIOPHILE (NON-NAVIGATION) SOUND SYSTEM.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
TEST PROCEDURE
Speaker pop radio noise is relatively constant and changes only with application of the brake pedal. If the pop noise varies or the noise comes and goes
without the application of the brake pedal, then it is not the subwoofer amplifier and this fix will not be effective. The following procedure will help
determine if the subwoofer amplifier is the cause of the radio noise.
1.
Ensure the vehicle is parked in an area with low ambient noise and with the windows rolled up.
2.
With the key in the on position turn the radio on and turn the volume down to zero.
3.
Apply brake pedal slowly and repeatedly. Confirm that a pop noise is coming from the subwoofer speakers only. If necessary, it may be necessary
to have a second person in the rear seat to confirm the noise.
4.
If the noise is present while the brake pedal is pushed and released, then the noise is being generated by the subwoofer amplifier, proceed with the
TSB. If the noise is not present, do not continue with this TSB. Refer to normal diagnosis in the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 100-04.
NOTE
CERTAIN ELECTRICAL NOISES ARE CONSIDERED NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION WHEN OPERATING OTHER ELECTRICAL
LOADS, THESE ARE A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE, AND NOT RELATED TO THIS CONDITION.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Remove the audio unit. Refer to the WSM, Section 415-00.
