The Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) feature of the safety belt retractor must be checked by a qualified technician to verify that the ALR
feature for a child seat is functioning properly, in addition to other checks for proper safety belt system function. A belt and retractor assembly
must be replaced if the safety belt assembly's "automatic locking retractor" feature or any other safety belt function is not operating properly when
inspected according to the functional inspection procedures. Failure to replace the belt and retractor assembly could increase the risk of injury in
collisions.

The safety belt pretensioner is a pyrotechnic device. Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag equipped vehicle and when handling a
safety belt buckle pretensioner or safety belt retractor pretensioner. Never probe a pretensioner electrical connector. Doing so could result in
pretensioner or air bag deployment and could result in personal injury.
NOTE:

If a seat equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS) component is being serviced, the SRS must be depowered.

The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the RCM fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate
a SRS fault.

The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

Repair is made by installing a new part only. If the new part does not correct the condition, install the original part and carry out the diagnostic
procedure again.

RH side shown, LH side similar.
All front retractors
1. Position the seat to its most forward position.
2. Depower the SRS.
3. Remove the lower B-pillar trim panel.
4. Remove the seat cushion side shield cover.
5. Remove the safety belt anchor nut.

To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
Passenger front retractor
6. Disconnect the belt tension sensor electrical connector.
7. Route the safety belt anchor and safety belt tension sensor electrical connector through the seat cushion trim cover.
Driver front retractor
8. Route the safety belt anchor connector through the seat cushion trim cover.
All front retractors
9. Remove the upper B-pillar trim panel.

Remove the screw cover and screw and pull downward on the upper B-pillar trim panel and remove.
10. Remove the secondary safety belt guide from the B-pillar.
11. Remove the safety belt guide D-ring bolt.

To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
12. Disconnect the safety belt retractor and pretensioner electrical connector.
13. Remove the bolt and safety belt retractor and pretensioner.

To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
14. NOTE: Make sure the safety belt webbing is not twisted prior to installation.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
15. Repower the SRS.
