Mountaineer 2WD V8-4.6L SOHC VIN W (2003)
1. NOTE: Apply dielectric compound to the inside of the ignition coils.
Remove the RH ignition coils.

Disconnect the ignition coil connectors.

Remove the bolts and ignition coils.
2. CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools
cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant
Clean and inspect the valve cover mating surface of the cylinder head with metal surface cleaner.
3. Inspect the valve cover gasket. If the gasket is damages, remove and discard the gasket. Clean the valve gasket groove with soap and water or a
suitable solvent.
Item 11: RH Valve Cover Installation Note
1. If a new gasket is being installed, apply instant adhesive completely around the gasket groove in the valve cover.
2. NOTE: Apply instant adhesive to secure the valve cover gasket into the valve cover.
Note: If the valve cover is not secured within four minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with metal surface cleaner.
Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.
Apply the silicone gasket and sealant in two places where the engine front cover meets the cylinder head.
