Moonroof - Molding Loose/Sunshade Tearing

ISSUE
Some vehicles produced before 6/3/2001 may exhibit the moonroof opening interior molding coming loose or the sunshade tearing during use. This may
be caused by:

Insufficient retention or buckling of the molding, particularly at elevated temperatures and/or

^

An interference condition between the molding and the sunshade

ACTION

Verify condition. Replace the molding and sunshade with revised service parts. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1.

Remove the roof opening panel according to Workshop Manual section 501-17.

2.

Remove the roof opening panel shield according to Workshop Manual section 501-17.

3.

Remove the moonroof molding from the headliner opening and discard.

4.

Install new molding, 2L2Z-7852124-BAA (light parchment) or 2L2Z-7852124-BAB (light graphite) onto the moonroof flange starting at the rear
center of the vehicle. Locate the metal carrier "up" so the molding flap is pointing down. Push the molding onto the flange until it is fully seated
around the entire perimeter of the opening. Insure that the two ends of the molding meet up tight to each other with no gap between them.

5.

Locate the end of the molding zip cord that will be located at the rear center of the opening. Pull the molding zip cord (always toward the center of
the moonroof opening) around the entire opening until the zip cord is removed and the headliner edge is fully covered by the molding lip.

6.

Position the molding and headliner as required by pushing the headliner and/or pulling the molding to insure that the headliner is appropriately
covered and the molding is properly seated.

7.

Install the new roof opening shield, 2L2Z-78519A02-AAA (light parchment) or 2L2Z-78519A02-AAB (light graphite) according to Workshop
Manual section 501-17.

NOTE

THE MOLDING AND SHIELD MUST BE REPLACED AS A SET TO ALLOW FOR PROPER OPERATION.

8.

Install the original roof opening panel according to Workshop Manual section 501-17.

9.

Align the roof opening panel to the roof according to Workshop Manual section 501-17.
