4.0L ENGINE - BLOCK HEATER LEAKS

FORD:
2008 Explorer Sport Trac, Explorer, Ranger

MERCURY:
2008 Mountaineer

ISSUE
Some 2008 Explorer, Explorer Sport Trac, Mountaineer vehicles built between 8/1/2007 - 10/31/2007, and Ranger vehicles built between 6/18/2007 -
10/31/2007 and equipped with a 4.0L engine and an engine block heater, may exhibit an engine coolant leak from the block heater.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1.

If the coolant leak is visible and coming from the block heater then replace block heater.

2.

Follow Work Shop Manual (WSM), Section 303-03 for block heater replacement. Torque the new block heater to 35 lb-in (4 N.m).

NOTE

A GAP MAY BE PRESENT BETWEEN ENGINE BLOCK FACE AND THE NEW BLOCK HEATER. THE GAP HAS NO EFFECT ON NEW
BLOCK HEATER SEALING.
