Using an ohmmeter or suitable conductivity tester, check for continuity between the ground strap and the vehicle antenna base. Also, check for
continuity between the ground strap and the metal filler pipe shield.
If both continuity checks are OK, the vehicle may be released.
If the continuity check to the antenna base is not OK, move the clip at the wheel house flange slightly back and forth until continuity is obtained. If
the continuity check to the metal filler pipe shield is not OK, move the clip at the filler pipe shield slightly back and forth until continuity is
obtained.

Release the vehicle.

Ford Motor Company has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1995 Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique
passenger cars.
SAFETY DEFECT
An electrostatic charge may accumulate during fueling on an exterior shield of the fuel filler pipe of your car. If a spark were to result and a combustible
mixture of fuel vapors were present in the vicinity of the spark, a fire could result.
REPAIRS
At no charge to you, your dealer will install a grounding strap between the fuel filler pipe shield and vehicle body. Dealers currently have instructions
and parts ordering information.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
The time needed for the service procedure is about one half hour. However, due to service scheduling times, your dealer may need your vehicle for one
full working day.
CALL YOUR DEALER
Call your dealer without delay. Ask for a service date and whether parts are in stock.
If your dealer does not have the parts in stock, they can be ordered before scheduling your service date. Parts would be expected to arrive within a week.
When you bring your car in, show the dealer this letter.
If you misplace this letter, your dealer will still do the work, free of charge.

Please fill out the enclosed prepaid postcard and mail it to us if you have changed your address or sold the car.
