ISSUE:
"Harshness" or "rubbing" noises are heard from the rear of some vehicles while driving. This may be due to the rear coil springs moving against the
upper and lower spring seats.
ACTION:
Install spring isolator sleeves on the upper and lower coils of each spring. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Refer to the appropriate year Contour/Mystique Service Manual, Section 04-02, for the following procedure.
WARNING:
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE REAR COIL SPRING (-5560-) FROM THE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER WITHOUT FIRST
COMPRESSING THE REAR COIL SPRING WITH A TOOL DESIGNED FOR THAT PURPOSE.
1.
Remove both rear shock absorbers from the vehicle.
2.
Remove springs from the shock absorbers.
3.
Use the Spring Isolator Sleeve Kit (F6RZ-5536-AA) and install:
