This TSB is being republished in its entirety to list the parts needed for servicing.
ISSUE:
Some 1995 CD4E transaxles built between May 8, 1995 and August 1, 1995 are assembled with high impedance solenoid bodies. These solenoid bodies
are identified by a natural/beige color connector and contain a high impedance Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid with a 12.5-19.0 ohm
resistance. Previous solenoid bodies are identified by a black connector and contain low impedance TCC solenoids with a 1.0-2.0 ohm resistance. Some
of these vehicles may experience a higher than normal rpm during the 3-4 shift at light to moderate acceleration due to the Powertrain Control Module
(PCM) calibration for the TCC solenoid.
ACTION:
If service is required on a CD4E transaxle built between May 8, 1995 and August 1, 1995 containing a high impedance solenoid body with higher than
normal rpms during the 3-4 shift, replace with a Low Impedance Solenoid (F3RZ-7G391-A) which should reduce the possibility of higher than expected
engine rpms during the 3-4 shift.
1995 vehicles built with a low impedance solenoid body which require service to the solenoid body and/or main control assembly must be serviced with
a low impedance solenoid body and main control assembly.
The 1995 and prior 2.0L Probe can be serviced with either a low impedance solenoid body or a high impedance solenoid body.
CAUTION:
DO NOT SERVICE THE 1996 MODEL YEAR AND BEYOND CD4E TRANSAXLES WITH A LOW IMPEDANCE SOLENOID BODY
IDENTIFIED WITH A BLACK CONNECTOR. SERVICE ONLY WITH WITH A HIGH IMPEDANCE SOLENOID BODY IDENTIFIED WITH
A NATURAL/BEIGE CONNECTOR.
