Hood Release Cable Handle - High Operating Effort

Article No. 86-21-1

HOOD - RELEASE CABLE BINDING OR HIGH EFFORTS - VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO 5/1/86

FORD 1986 TAURUS

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1986 SABLE

The hood release cable may bind resulting in high handle efforts. This may be caused by the current cable routing and excessive cable length. To correct
this, a new shorter release cable (E6DZ-16916-B) with a relocated grommet and no retainer clip should be installed using the following procedure.

1.

Remove and discard the existing hood release cable assembly (refer to 1986 Taurus/Sable Shop Manual, Section 44-08).

Figure 1

2.

Install the new hood release cable assembly (E6DZ-16916-B) to the vehicle, Figure 1.
