Fuel Rail: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Remove upper intake manifold.
2. Disconnect fuel supply and fuel return lines from the fuel injection supply manifold.
3. Carefully disconnect engine control sensor wiring from the fuel injectors.
4. Remove four fuel injection supply manifold retaining bolts (two on each side).
5. Carefully disengage fuel injection supply manifold from fuel injectors by lifting and gently rocking the fuel injection supply manifold.
6. Remove fuel injectors by lifting while gently rocking side to side.
CAUTION: Fuel injectors and fuel injection supply manifold must be handled with extreme care to prevent damage to sealing areas and sensitive
fuel-metering orifices.
7. Place removed components in a clean container to avoid dirt or other contamination.
INSTALLATION
1. Examine fuel injector O-rings for deterioration. Install new fuel injector O-rings if required.
CAUTION: When installing fuel injection supply manifold, pay particular attention to proper O-ring seating to make sure that no fuel leaks exist
or damage to vehicle may occur.
2. Lubricate fuel injector O-rings and install two on each fuel injector using clean engine oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-F.
CAUTION: To avoid cutting fuel injector O-rings, do not attempt to install if swollen. Allow fuel injector O-rings to dry out first or possible fuel
leakage could occur.
3. Make sure fuel injector cups are clean and free of contamination or damage.
4. Install fuel injectors in fuel injection supply manifold using light, twisting-pushing motion.
5. Carefully install fuel injection supply manifold and fuel injectors into lower intake manifold, one side at a time. To make sure that fuel injector
O-rings are seated, firmly push down on fuel injection supply manifold.
6. While holding fuel injection supply manifold in place, install retaining bolts and tighten to 8-12 Nm (71-106 lb-in).
7. Connect fuel supply and fuel return lines.
8. Before connecting the engine control sensor wiring, turn ignition switch to the RUN position several times without starting engine. This will
