3.8L FRONT WHEEL DRIVE - ENGINE MOUNTS
REMOVE AND INSTALL NEW RIGHT SIDE HYDRAULIC ENGINE MOUNTS
(ONE RIGHT FRONT AND ONE RIGHT REAR)
AIR SUSPENSION PRECAUTION - 1988-1991 CONTINENTAL - SHUT OFF AIR SUSPENSION
CONTROL LOCATED IN TRUNK BEFORE RAISING CAR ON HOIST.
ALL AFFECTED CARS - "HELPFUL HINTS" WHEN CHANGING ENGINE MOUNTS

Do not loosen or remove transaxle mounts.

Only raise engine's right side enough to remove mounts (about 25 mm or 1 inch).
CHECK COOLING LINES, A/C LINES AND COMPRESSOR FOR CLEARANCE AROUND RADIATOR FINS, ETC. WHEN RAISING AND
LOWERING ENGINE.

For 1988/89/90 cars only (not necessary for 1991 cars)

loosen (do not remove) two upper and two lower A/C compressor mounting bolts.

remove A/C drive belt.

slide A/C compressor forward on the four loose bolts.
-
To remove front mount upper nut - slip a long extension with an 18 mm medium length swivel socket between the rear edge of the A/C compressor
and the bracket, to reach the nut.

When removing engine mount and heat shield, remove mount from subframe end first.

Torque upper retaining nuts to 54-75 N-m (40-55 lb.ft.)

Torque lower retaining nuts to 72-105 N-m (55-75 lb.ft)
DURING INSTALLATION, HOLD LOWER CAN ON MOUNT TO PREVENT TWISTING WHEN LOWER NUT IS TIGHTENED

For 1988/89/90 cars only - Torque A/C compressor bolts to 40-55 N-m (30-40 lb.ft.).

TURN ON AIR SUSPENSION CONTROL IN TRUNK - CONTINENTAL ONLY.

Start engine and check operation.
