Intake Manifold: Service and Repair
Intake Manifold
V6-232 ENGINE
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain cooling system into suitable container.
2.
Remove air cleaner, air cleaner air inlet and hot air tube.
3.
Disconnect accelerator cable and transmission linkage from carburetor.
4.
Remove accelerator cable bracket mounting bolts, then position cable aside.
5.
On models equipped with cruise control, disconnect servo chain at carburetor, then remove servo and bracket assembly attaching bolts and
position unit aside.
6.
Disconnect carburetor bowl vent hose from carburetor and position aside.
7.
Disconnect thermactor air supply hose from check valve located at rear of intake manifold.
8.
Disconnect fuel line from carburetor.
9.
Disconnect upper radiator hose from thermostat housing and water pump bypass hose from intake manifold.
10.
Disconnect heater hose from intake manifold, then the heater hose support bracket attaching nut.
11.
Label, then disconnect all necessary vacuum hoses and electrical connections that would interfere with intake manifold removal.
12.
On models equipped with A/C, remove A/C compressor support bracket from intake manifold.
13.
Loosen EGR tube at EGR valve adapter, then disconnect PCV hose from carburetor.
14.
Remove carburetor and discard gasket.
15.
Remove carburetor attaching studs from intake manifold, then the EGR spacer attaching bolts.
16.
Remove EGR valve and adapter from intake manifold. Discard gasket.
17.
Remove PCV hose, then the intake manifold attaching bolts and the intake manifold.
18.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Clean all cylinder head/block to intake manifold contact areas.
b. Apply a dab of contact cement D7AZ-19B508-A or equivalent in three places on each cylinder head to intake manifold mating surface, then
press new gaskets into position over locating dowels.
c. Apply bead of silicone sealer D6AZ-19562-B or equivalent to each corner where the intake manifold joins the cylinder block.
d. Apply bead of silicone sealer D6AZ-19562-B or equivalent to each end where the intake manifold joins the cylinder block.
