LINCOLN-MERCURY:  1986-88 SABLE

ISSUE:

Cut or torn steering column shift lever opening seals may be caused by the casting flash left on the shift lever socket. Movement of the
steering column shift lever can deform the shift lever opening seal and cause the seal to contact the casting flash.

ACTION:

To correct this, remove the casting flash on the shift lever socket and replace the shift lever opening seal using the following service
procedure.

1.

Remove upper shroud and shift lever from socket. Refer to the Taurus/Sable Shop Manual, Section 13-04.

Remove casting flash, sharp edges, from shift lever socket, Figure 2.

3.

Reinstall shift lever into socket using a new shift lever pin (E6DZ-7G357-A).
