AFFECTED VEHICLES
1988-model California Taurus, Sable and Continental cars equipped with 3.8L engines originally involved in but not yet serviced under Emissions Recall
91E15.
REASONS FOR RECALL
Owners of affected cars were notified in March, 1992 to return their cars to a Ford or Lincoln-Mercury dealer for Emissions Recall 91E15 service.
After that service was performed some owners reported engine driveability problems. As a result the recall was temporarily suspended.
RECONTACTING OWNERS
Owners who have not responded to Emissions Recall 91E15 are being recontacted for the service provided by this recall (Emissions Recall 93E42).
Owners who had recall 91E15 service performed are being recontacted to return for the service provided by Emissions Recall 93E41.
RECALL SERVICE
All cars will have the thermactor air control system removed, electronic engine control processors, evaporative emissions system components and
exhaust system toeboard catalysts replaced and attachment of Vehicle Emissions Control Information (VECI) and Authorized Modifications labels.
Processors have been improved to eliminate potentially unsatisfactory engine performance, enhance "Smog-Check" results and reduce air pollutants.
All California owners are to be provided Vehicle Emissions Recall - Proof of Correction Certificates.
