EMISSIONS CONTROL SYSTEM
MODIFICATIONS KIT "A"
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
AFFECTED VEHICLES:
1988 Model Taurus/Sable - California 3.8L engines
Hose, Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Vacuum Control Valve
Locate the EGR valve in the center of the engine compartment.
1.
Remove existing hose and replace with new hose provided in parts kit. Assure that new hose is straight after installation.
EEC-IV Microprocessor Assembly
Removal and Installation
1.
Record radio stations for reprogramming upon completion of this procedure.
2.
Disconnect battery cable.
3.
Disconnect 60-pin connector to microprocessor at dash panel.
4.
From inside passenger compartment, open glove compartment door and release tabs to allow door to fully open.
5.
Loosen bracket retaining microprocessor and slide microprocessor rearward and remove.
6.
Install new microprocessor and tighten retaining bracket. Close glove compartment door.
7.
Connect 60-pin connector to microprocessor.
8.
Connect battery cable.
9.
Reprogram radio stations.
10.
Drive vehicle for a minimum of five miles to have processor develop adaptive strategy. Inform customer about microprocessor adaptive strategy
and that vehicle may not operate at optimum performance levels during the first few miles driven.
