Fuel Rail - Supplemental Installation Procedure

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

ISSUE:
Proper installation of multi-point fuel rail assemblies when new or old fuel injectors are used requires a certain amount of care to make sure
the fuel system operates correctly.
ACTION:
If service is required, use the following Shop Manual supplemental installation procedure. When reinstalling fuel rail assemblies, correct
O-ring seating is important to make sure that fuel leaks DO NOT occur.
Fuel Rail Assembly Installation
1.
Always install one (1) side of the fuel rail assembly at a time when it is a two piece assembly having a left and right hand side.
2.
Install the fuel injector retaining clips on the fuel injectors and fuel rail fuel injector cups on those applications which use them (all 3.8L).

Seating Injector O-Rings
1.
Push the fuel rail down to make sure that all the fuel injector O-rings are fully seated in the fuel rail cups and intake manifold or cylinder head,

2.
Install the retaining bolts while holding the fuel rail assembly down. Torque bolts to specification.
3.
After the fuel rail assembly has been installed and before the fuel injector wire connectors have been connected, turn the key to the "ON" position.
This will cause the fuel pump to run for 2-3 seconds and pressurize the fuel system.
Checking For Fuel Leaks
1.
Using a clean paper towel, check for leaks where the fuel injector is installed into the fuel rail.
2.
Connect the fuel injector wire connectors. Start the engine and let it idle for two minutes.
3.
Turn the engine off and check for fuel leaks where the fuel injector is installed in the fuel rail, intake manifold or cylinder head.
