Fuel Injector: Description and Operation
Fuel Injector
The fuel injectors, Fig. 7, are electro-mechanical devices which meter and atomize fuel for combustion. The injectors, located in the lower intake
manifold, are installed so fuel is directed just ahead of the intake valves. The injector solenoid receives an electrical control signal from the ECU which
causes the pintle to move off its seat, allowing fuel to flow. Because the fuel pressure drop across the injector tip is constant and the injector orifice is
fixed, fuel flow is regulated by the length of time the solenoid is energized.
