TRACTION-LOK LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL
Ford Type
The Cleaning and Inspection of these units is the same as for conventional differentials except that cleaning solvent should not be allowed to contact the
clutch plates. The clutch plates should be wiped clean only. In addition, the following steps should be performed which apply to the Traction-Loc
differential only.
Visually inspect clutch packs, side gears, pinion gears and pinion shaft for damage or wear and replace as necessary.
Place each clutch pack without shims into tool T80P-4946-A or equivalent, Fig. 6. Torque nut to 40 inch lbs. on 1982---84 models or 60 inch lbs. on
1985---87 models. Using feeler gauge, determine thickness of new shims by inserting thickest blade possible between clutch pack and tool, Fig. 7, and
note size for use during reassembly.
Borg-Warner Type
1.
Clean and dry parts thoroughly with shop towels. Do not use cleaners or solvents on this unit.
2.
Inspect all parts. If any surface shows excessive wear or scoring, replace unit. Slight scoring is acceptable.
