POWER WINDOW CONCERNS - SERVICE TIP

FORD:
2000-2006 Taurus

MERCURY:
2000-2005 Sable

ISSUE
Some 2000-2006 Taurus and 2000-2005 Sable vehicles may exhibit concerns with power window operation.

ACTION
The following Service Procedure may be used in place of the DTC driven Workshop Manual (WSM) procedure to help diagnose and repair power
window.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

NOTE

BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIR ATTEMPT, MAKE SURE THAT ALL SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB), GENERIC ELECTRONIC
MODULE (GEM), AND CENTRAL JUNCTION BOX (CJB) CONNECTORS ARE FULLY SEATED ALL POWER WINDOW CONCERNS:

If any window moves at all the then fuses, breakers and SJB/GEM/CJB connections are not the cause of the concern. The SJB (SJB: 2004-2006 MY)
and GEM (GEM/CJB: 2000-2003 MY) are also not a likely cause of the concern if any window is moving. Seek issues for the malfunctioning window in
the door switches, window motors, and the wiring connections between them prior to looking at the SJB or GEM as a possible cause.

DRIVERS WINDOW ONE-TOUCH DOWN (OTD)

CONCERNS:

1.

Initiate self test.

a.

If self test does not move the driver side window, temporarily swap the OTD relay with the blower relay and initiate the self test again.

(1)

If the window now moves, put the blower motor relay back in place and install a new OTD relay to service.

(2)

If the window still does not move, swap the relays back to their original location and replace the SJB/CJB.

b.

If self test does move the driver side window then the cause of the concern is not the SJB (2004-2006 MY) or the GEM/CJB (2000-2003
MY). Output controls are OK. Proceed to Step 2.

Check the inputs by monitoring the OTD PIDs (NGS PID D_PWRLY; WDS PID OTD_SW) while depressing the driver window control switch
to the one-touch down detent position for 5 seconds.

a.

If OTD PID toggles (D_PWRLY) or reads activated (OTD_SW), then the input is OK. The customer may not understand the function of the
detent position or there may be an intermiffent contact at any of the connections or the switch. Check the wiring, switch and the terminals
and make sure the connections are good.

b.

If OTD PID does not toggle (D_PWRLY) or reads "not activated" (OTD_SW), connect the OTD input circuit (Pin 15: SJB C2280f or GEM
C201c) to ground while reading the PID. If the PID reads correctly as the circuit is shorted to ground, then there is an open in the circuit
between the SJB/GEM connection and the window switch, or the switch itself has an open. If the PID still does not read correctly, replace
SJB or EM/CJB.
