Oil Filter: Service and Repair

Removal 

1. Place a drain pan under the oil bypass filter and unscrew the oil bypass filter from the oil filter mounting insert using an oil filter wrench.
2. Clean the insert recess and the filter gasket sealing surface.
3. If required, remove the oil filter mounting insert from the cylinder block.

Installation 

1. If removed, install the oil filter mounting insert. Tighten to 27-40 Nm (20-29 ft. lbs.).
2. Coat the gasket on the oil bypass filter with Motorcraft Super Premium 5W30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification

WSS-M2C1153-G.

3. Place oil bypass filter in position on the oil filter mounting insert. Hand-tighten the oil bypass filter until the gasket contacts the sealing surface,

then advance it 3/4-1 turn or tighten to 13-15 Nm (10-11 ft. lbs.). 

4. Check the oil level and add oil as required to bring to specified level.
5. With engine oil in the crankcase, operate the engine at fast idle and check for oil leaks. If oil leaks are evident, perform the necessary service to

correct leakage.
