Refrigerant Oil: Service and Repair
The A/C compressor uses a special refrigerant oil, PAG Compressor Oil Motorcraft YN-12c F7AZ-19589-DA or equivalent meeting Ford specification
WSH-M1C231-B. This oil contains special additives required for the A/C compressor.
It is important that only the specified type and quantity of refrigerant oil be used in the A/C compressor. If there is surplus oil in the system, too much oil
will circulate with the refrigerant, reducing the cooling capacity of the system. Too little oil will result in poor lubrication of the A/C compressor.
DURING A/C COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT
Replacement of the suction accumulator/drier is not required when repairing the air conditioning system except when there is physical evidence of
system contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the suction accumulator/drier.
Whenever the A/C compressor is replaced and evidence of debris is present within the A/C system, the following must also be accomplished:

Replace the suction accumulator/drier.

Replace the A/C evaporator core orifice.

Clean the A/C system by flushing or filtering.
NOTE: Service A/C compressors are shipped without compressor oil.
When reinstalling the existing A/C compressor or installing a new A/C compressor, the A/C compressor must be serviced with the correct amount
of PAG Compressor Oil Motorcraft YN-12c F7AZ-19589-DA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B as follows:
1. Obtain a clean container that can also be used as a measuring device.
2. Place the A/C clutch on the A/C compressor shaft so the shaft can be rotated.
3. Rotate the shaft by hand six to eight revolutions, collecting the oil in a clean measuring device.
4. If the amount of oil drained from the old A/C compressor is between 89-142 ml (3-5 ounces), pour the same amount plus 30 ml (1 ounce) of
clean PAG Compressor Oil Motorcraft YN-12c F7AZ-19589-DA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B into the new A/C
compressor.
5. If the amount of oil that was removed from the old A/C compressor is greater than 142 ml (5 ounces), pour the same amount drained of clean
PAG Compressor Oil Motorcraft YN-12c F7AZ-19589-DA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B into the new A/C
compressor.
6. If the amount of refrigerant oil that was removed from the old A/C compressor is less than 89 ml (3 ounces), pour 89 ml (3 ounces) of clean
PAG Compressor Oil Motorcraft YN-12c F7AZ-19589-DA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B into the new A/C
compressor.
