Customer complaints of an inoperative front door latch can be serviced by replacing it with a new latch date coded "5B10, 5B11, 5B12 or 5C01". The
door latch date code is visible on the latch cover and can be read when the door is in the open position. (Refer to code location Figure 2).
NOTE:
When making installation of a new front door latch, dealer technicians should examine the rubber boot cover on the power actuator to assure it
is not in a twisted or improperly installed position over the actuator. Also, the wire lead to the power actuator should be examined to assure it
is not stretched tight or misrouted, restricting the power actuator rod travel during operation.
Door latch removal and installation instructions may be found in the appropriate 1985 Car or Truck Shop Manual, Section 44-16.
