AIR CONDITIONING - REVISED REMOVAL PROCEDURES FOR INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER LOUVERS

FORD 1985 TEMPO

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1985 TOPAZ

A new procedure has been developed to prevent instrument panel register louvers damage during the removal process. This new procedure should be
used in place of the one found in the Tempo/Topaz Shop Manual.

NOTE:

The louver housing pivots and louver retaining rings on these car lines allow for ease of removal by lightly prying on the sides of the louver
assembly to lift the retaining rings off the housing pivots.

1.

Insert a thin bladed screw driver between the louver assembly and the thumbwheel - then pry the louver assembly off the pivot (refer to Figure 6).

2.

Pry right side of louver assembly out while preventing the left side from snapping back in place - then remove louver assembly.

Installation:

Align the louver assembly against the louver housing -then depress the retaining rings inward and push the louver assembly into the housing until the two
retainers snap over the pivots.
