1.
Prior to any attempt to start the vehicle, check to see if the fuel bowl is empty by checking the pump shot. Absence of a full, steady stream with the
first two or three strokes of the throttle indicates a lack of fuel in the fuel bowl.
2.
Check for fuel flow at the carburetor by disconnecting the fuel line at the carburetor inlet fitting, using a back-up wrench. If the fuel flow is
acceptable, continue to Step 3; if not, refer to TSB 83-13-27, and perform the necessary steps to correct the fuel flow.
3.
Remove the inlet fitting needle and seat and discard.
4.
Install an updated inlet needle/seat kit P.N. E5PZ-9564-C.
NOTE:
The old inlet needle and seat kits (E43Z- 9564-B and C), have been deleted and should no longer be used. The updated needle and seat kit is
stamped with a "310" on the hex flats. Do not use needle and seat assemblies stamped "300," "305," "307," or "308." Also DO NOT over
torque the needle/ seat assembly into the carburetor casting!
5.
Torque the inlet fitting to 150 in.lb.
6.
Install the fuel line (hand start tube nut) and torque to 15-18 ft.lb. using a back-up wrench to hold inlet fitting.
NOTE:
The tune-up and gasket kits E4PZ-9A586-A and F (50 States, 6149 carburetor) and E4PZ-9A586-B and G (Canada, 1949 carburetor) have
been updated to E4PZ-9A586- J and E5PZ-9A586-M respectively. The old tune-up and gasket kits may be used for all their other components,
