2.0L Diesel Alternator Belt With Air Conditioning

1.

Install V-ribbed power steering belt on pulleys.

2.

Install a screwdriver, or equivalent, between alternator and power steering pump bracket, Figure 7.

3.

Apply tension to alternator belt using screwdriver. Using a belt tension gauge, set belt to correct tension: new alternator belt 150-190 lbs. (622-709
N), used alternator belt 130-140 lbs. (500-584 N).

4.

Secure alternator pivot bolt, leaving it loose enough to allow alternator to move. While maintaining correct belt tension, torque alternator adjusting
bolts to 22-32 ft.lbs. (30-43 N-m).

5.

Remove belt tension gauge and screwdriver.

6.

Idle engine for five (5) minutes.

NOTE:

When retensioning a loose belt, it is important not to allow the belt to relax.

With engine off and the tension gauge in place, apply tension to breaker bar while slowly loosening alternator adjustment bolt to allow belt tension
to increase to correct specification. Torque alternator adjustment bolt to 22-32 ft. lbs. (30-43 N-m).

8.

Torque alternator pivot to 45-55 ft.lbs. (61-75 N-m).

2.0L Diesel A/C Belt & 2.3L HSC Alternator Belt Information

2.0L Diesel Air Conditioning Belt

1.

Install conventional V-ribbed air conditioning belt on pulleys.

2.

Apply tension to belt using adjusting screw located on idler and bracket assembly.

3.

Using a belt tension gauge, set belt to correct tension: new air conditioning belt 150-190 lbs. (667-845 N), used air conditioning belt 140-160 lbs.
(682-712 N).

4.

Rotate adjusting screw until belt is correctly tensioned, torque idler slider bolts to 30-40 ft.lbs. (45-55 N-m).
