1.

Install V-ribbed alternator belt on pulleys.

2.

Apply tension to the belt using adjusting screw, Figure 10.

3.

Using a belt tension gauge, set belt to proper tension: new alternator belt 140-160 lbs. (533-711 N), used alternator belt 110-130 lbs. (356-446 N).

4.

Secure alternator pivot, leaving it loose enough to allow the alternator to move. Rotate adjusting screw until belt is properly tensioned.

5.

Torque alternator adjustment bolt to 22-32 ft. lbs. (30-43 N-m).

NOTE:

When retensioning a loose belt, it is important not to allow the belt to relax.

Remove belt tension gauge and idle engine for five (5) minutes.

7.

With engine off and tension gauge in place, make sure adjusting screw is in contact with bracket before loosening alternator adjustment bolt.
Rotate adjusting screw until belt is correctly re-tensioned to used belt specification, 110-130 lbs. (356-445 N).

8.

Torque alternator pivot bolt to 45-56 ft.lbs. (61-77 N).

3.0L Power Steering/Air Conditioning Belt

1.

Install V-ribbed power steering/AC belt on pulleys.

2.

Apply tension to belt using adjusting screw, Figure 10.

3.

Using a belt tension gauge, set belt to proper tension: new power steering/AC belt 180-200 lbs. (667-845 N), used power steering/AC belt 140-160
lbs. (623-845 N).

4.

Secure idler pulley nut, leaving it loose enough to allow idler pulley to move. Rotate adjusting screw until belt is properly tensioned.

5.

Torque idler pulley nut to 50-65 ft.lbs. (68-88 N-m).

NOTE:

When retensioning a loose belt, it is important not to allow the belt to relax.

Remove belt tension gauge and idle engine for five (5) minutes.

7.

With engine off and tension gauge in place, make sure adjusting screw is in contact with bracket before loosening idler pulley nut. Rotate adjusting
screw until belt is properly re-tensioned to used belt specification, 140-160 lbs. (623-712 N).

8.

Torque idler pulley nut to 50-65 ft.lbs. (68-88 N-m).
