ISSUE:
A "whining" noise between 1250 and 2500 engine RPM may be caused by the timing chain contacting the timing chain damper.
ACTION:
To correct this, remove and throw away the timing chain damper. Refer to the following procedure for detailed service information.

Remove the 6-Rib Poly "V" belt from the engine crank pulley as follows:
a.
Remove the tension from the automatic belt tensioner by inserting a 12" - 18" long 3/8" drive extension bar into the lift-lug, Figure 5. The
lift-lug is designed to accept only a 3/8" drive extension bar.
