Shift Interlock Cable: Service and Repair

REMOVAL 

1. Hold shift knob securely and depress release button, then pull up on shift knob. Ensure that the spring loaded release button does not eject from

shift knob rapidly.

2. Remove console and bezel assembly.
3. Remove screw attaching cable to shifter housing.
4. Disconnect wire from camplate, then remove retainer pin. Remove bracket from shifter.
5. Remove steering column shrouds, then loosen steering column retaining bolt. Lower the column.
6. Disconnect electrical connector from solenoid.
7. Remove screw retaining cable to steering column.
8. Pull back carpeting under the accelerator pedal, then remove the cable from the retainer clip.
9. Remove solenoid retainer bracket.

10. Remove cable by pulling from under the carpeting at the shifter.

INSTALLATION 

1. Feed cable forward under the carpet at the shifter until it appears under the accelerator pedal.
2. Pull through and guide up between the steering column support bolts.
3. Install solenoid into retainer bracket.
4. Clip the cable into retainer clip under the accelerator pedal at the cable ferrule.
5. Connect electrical connector to solenoid.
6. With the column on the floor, secure the housing to the column with screw.
7. Attach cable bracket to the shifter pivot pin then secure with retainer pin.
8. With the shifter in the Park position, attach a wire to the camplate slot, then secure the bracket to the shifter. Torque retaining screw to 25-35 in

lbs.

9. Check interlock key and shifter operations.

10. Install steering column, shrouds, bezel assembly, console, and shift knob.
