Dashpot: Description and Operation

Dashpot

PURPOSE
The Dashpot allows the throttle plate to gradually close during deceleration. This prevents hesitation during the transition from deceleration to sudden
acceleration, and prevents engine stalling on sudden deceleration.

OPERATION
the Dashpot is attached to the throttle Body. A tab on the throttle shaft contacts the Dashpot. When the throttle is pressed on and then released, the relese
action is slowed by means of a spring and diaphragm, which make up the dashpot, allowing it to collapse at a controlled rate, to prevent sudden throttle
closing.
