REMOVAL
1.
Raise and support rear of vehicle.
2.
Remove wheel and tire assembly, then the grease cap.
3.
Using a suitable chisel, raise staked portion of wheel bearing locknut.
4.
Remove rear bearing locknut. To do so, turn the locknut at the lefthand rear wheel bearing counterclockwise and the locknut at the righthand rear
wheel bearing clockwise.
5.
Remove outer wheel bearing, then remove brake drum and bearing hub assembly.
6.
Remove brake shoe hold-down springs, then pull front shoe away from backing plate, disconnect return springs and remove front shoe, Fig. 1.
7.
Remove return springs from rear shoe, then disconnect anti-rattle spring attaching rear shoe to parking brake strut and remove rear shoe.
8.
If necessary, remove adjuster assembly.
INSTALLATION
1.
Lubricate the six shoe contact pads with high temperature grease D7AZ-19590-A or equivalent, then the adjuster mechanism toothed quadrant and
the anchor plate.
2.
Position rear brake shoe in the parking brake strut and install rear hold down pin and spring.
3.
Hook brake shoe return springs in position on rear brake shoe.
4.
Connect brake shoe return springs to front shoe and push into place against backing plate.
5.
Install front brake shoe hold down pin and spring.
6.
Insert screwdriver between knurled quadrant and parking brake strut, then twist screwdriver until quadrant touches backing plate.
7.
Install drum, then firmly apply brakes two or three times to adjust rear brakes.
