Cruise Control Brush Assembly: Service and Repair
Ground Brush
1.
On models less air bag module, remove steering wheel by removing two screws from rear of steering wheel.
2.
Remove foam insert, then the electrical connector from the steering wheel.
3.
On models with air bag module, disarm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM
DISARMING.
4.
Remove four screws from rear of steering wheel, then the air bag module. Place air bag module on a flat surface with the trim cover facing up.
5.
On all models, remove electrical connectors from steering wheel pad, clockspring and horn.
6.
Loosen steering wheel retaining screw approximately five turns.
7.
Use steering wheel puller tool No. T67L-3600-A, or equivalent, to free steering wheel from shaft. Do not use a knock-off type puller or strike
retaining bolt with a hammer as damage to the steering wheel shaft bearing may occur.
8.
Remove steering column lower trim shroud, then the straps securing brush assembly wire at ignition switch and column tube.
9.
Separate speed control brush wire harness from connector, then remove screw securing brush assembly to upper bearing retainer plate.
10.
Remove brush assembly wire and connector assembly through opening in upper bearing retaining plate.
11.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque ground brush retaining screws to 18-26 inch lbs.
b. Torque new steering wheel bolt to 23-33 ft. lbs.
12.
Reactivate airbag as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
