Tracer L4-116 1.9L SOHC (1991)
Camshaft: Service and Repair
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable and remove air intake duct.
2.
Remove rocker arm cover.
3.
Remove accessory drive belt.
4.
Remove timing belt as outlined under TIMING BELT & COVER.
5.
Remove rocker arms and tappets as follows:
a. Remove hex flange nut.
b. Remove fulcrums and rocker arms.
c. Remove tappet guide retainers and tappet guides.
d. Remove tappets.
6.
Remove EDIS coil assembly.
7.
Remove camshaft sprocket and key.
8.
Remove camshaft thrust plate.
9.
Remove cup plug from rear of cylinder head.
10.
Remove camshaft through rear of cylinder head toward transaxle. Use care not to damage bearing surfaces.
11.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Coat camshaft lobes and bearing surfaces with oil prior to installation.
b. Adjust valves as outlined under ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES/VALVES.
c. Install cup plug using sealant part No. ESE-M46217-A, or equivalent. Use sparingly, excess sealant can clog oil holes in camshaft.
