Throttle Position Sensor: Service and Repair

Throttle Position Sensor

1.

Remove the air intake plenum.

2.

Disconnect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor electrical connector.

3.

Remove the TP sensor retaining screws, then the sensor.

4.

Position the sensor on the throttle body.  Ensure the rotary tangs on the sensor are properly aligned and the wires are pointing down.
CAUTION:  Slide the rotary tangs into position over the throttle shaft blade, then rotate the TP sensor counter-clockwise to the installed position. 
Failure to install the sensor in this manner may result in excessive idle speeds.  

5.

Install the retaining screws and torque to 25-30 lbs. in. (2.8-3.4 N-m).

6.

Connect the TP sensor electrical connector and install the intake plenum.

NOTE:  The TP sensor is not adjustable.
