ISSUE:
Intermittent operation of the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system, or lack of range with the remote transmitter may occur on some vehicles. This may be
caused by a poor crimp of the antenna wire to the terminal end at the module and instrument cluster end.
ACTION:
Replace the antenna and antenna extension lead wire with revised parts. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

Service Procedure
1.
If the RKE system is inoperative, refer to the 1997 Villager Service Manual, Page 13-11-4, for diagnostics.
2.
If the RKE system has a range of less than 9 meters (30 feet), refer to the Service Manual, Page 01-14B-4, for diagnostics.
3.
If the RKE system operates intermittently or has a range of less than 1.8 meters (6 feet), replace the antenna and antenna extension lead as follows:
a.
Disconnect the battery ground cable.
b.
Remove the four (4) console compartment plastic screws or compact disc (CD) changer cover plastic screws (if equipped) and the console
compartment door or CD changer cover.
