Drive Belt: Adjustments
A/C Compressor
Tension Adjustment
CAUTION: Proper tension is important to drive belt life and the operation of the driven components. A loose, slipping drive belt will glaze rapidly and
may cause a noise or an improper component operation. An overly tight drive belt exerts unnecessarily high loads on component bearings.
1. Place Rotunda Offset Belt Tension Gauge 014-R 1066 or equivalent at a point midway between the A/C clutch pulley and the crankshaft pulley
and measure the tension of the A/C compressor drive belt.
2. The tension for the A/C compressor drive belt should measure 603-691 N (136-155 Lbs) for a new drive belt or 495-583 N (112-131 Lbs) for a
used drive belt. The lower limit for drive belt tension is 196 N (45 Lbs).
NOTE: A drive belt is considered new if it has been used on a running engine for less than five minutes.
3. Adjust the A/C compressor drive belt tension as follows:
a. Loosen the A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley tensioner bolt.
